Dan Hinde was appointed Judge of the 269th District Court of Harris County, Texas in November 2008. The voters elected him to a full 4 year term in 2010 and reelected him to his current term in 2014.He is board certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Judge Hinde clerked for U.S. District Judge Sim Lake before joining Vinson & Elkins, LLP, where he practiced trial law for several years. As a lawyer, Judge Hinde tried sixteen cases as first or second chair, including twelve jury trials, and he argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants and handled a wide variety of cases—including commercial, construction, corporate-governance, employment, energy, maritime, mass-tort, personal-injury, products-liability, securities-fraud, and technology litigation. He also prosecuted criminal cases and represented indigent defendants challenging their sentences. Before taking the bench, Judge Hinde represented pro bono the Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Houston Society of the Archaeological Institute of America. Judge Hinde is a member of the State Bar’s Pattern Jury Charge Oversight Committee. Previously, Judge Hinde served two terms on the Court Rules Committee of the State Bar of Texas. He also serves on the Houston Bar Association’s Judicial Polls Committee, and he previously led the HBA’s Federal Practice Section as Chair
