Proposed Changes to Lawyer Advertising Rules

February 20, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Attorney Paul T. Freeman will present the proposed changes to the Advertising Rules for Attorneys contained in Rules 7.01-7.07 of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.

These changes have been proposed by the Committee on Disciplinary Rules and Referenda, which committee is accepting comments until March 1, 2019 and will be voted on by the committee in their meeting either on March 6 or April 18.

One of the proposed changes would allow lawyers and law firms to use trade names that aren’t misleading.

For example, instead of being called “The Law Office of John Doe” or “Doe, Smith, and Jones”, a law firm could be called “Access Legal Group” or “Red River Law Firm” or “Houston Business Attorneys”.

The HNBA is gathering feedback on the proposed changes using the form below.
